Deze gegevens blijken uit een rapport van de Algemene Rekenkamer over de geldstromen voor ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Nederland gaf in het jaar 2008 4,3 miljard euro uit aan internationale hulp. Dit geld werd verspreid over 125 verschillende landen. Ook de Palestijnse Autoriteiten krijgen steun vanuit Nederland. Zij krijgen per 1000 inwoners 26.000 euro per jaar aan ontwikkelingsgeld. Daarop volgt Kaapverdië met 19.000 euro en daarna Macedonië met 6.000 euro per 1.000 inwoners per jaar. Nederland houdt zich goed aan de 0.7 procent richtlijn die eigenlijk moet worden besteed aan ontwikkelingshulp.
